When you select Document you will see the following screen provided you have correctly set up your Options - Preferences:

If your document is on a floppy disk, insert it in the appropriate drive on the computer (usually the A drive). If you are on your own computer your file is probably on your hard drive which is usually Drive C.
Next, open the appropriate workspace (some classes give you more than one choice) and find the proper folder for your paper.
Local File:
Document Name:
Use the BROWSE button to find your document. Your document is ususally on your C drive in the My Documents folder unless you are using a USB memory stick or other storage device. Highlight the document when you find it.
Click into this box and write the name of your document. Your document name must include your own name as well as the name of the paper you are writing such as "Bucko_Paper_01" or "Bucko_Nanook_Paper_1".
Description:
You can put a description of your document in this space or any specail instructions you might want to pass on to other users or your professor.
Rating:
You may rate your document but that is not necessary.
Mime-Type
This function is very important. The Mime-Type tells BSCW what kind of document you are uploading to the workspace: The document you upload ideally will be in Microsoft Word format. If you are not using Microsoft word save the document in RTF (rich text format) -- when you upload the document use MS Word as the Mime type even though the actual type is RTF. Click on the down arrow to reveal the list of choices:
If you are uploading a Word document you would choose MS Word as the Mime-Type.
Encoding Type:
Leave this setting alone so that it reads: (none).
When you have finished filling in all the necessary fields click on the "OK" button to upload the document. After you upload the document test that you can also download it by clicking on the document. If the system challenges you with a dilogue box (or two or three) be sure to put in your BSCW user namd and password.Final Note:
We ask you NOT to read other people’s papers before you upload your own paper. The system will alert the professors if you do so and you will be penalized. If you open a paper file by accident please e-mail your professor immediately.
You will never be penalized for difficulties with technology provided you alert your professor as soon as possible.
