Adding Your Picture |
The workspace allows you to display a personal picture in your "details" display. Thus if you are in a collaborative learning class you can "see" what people in the other class look like. If you are using the workspace locally this facility allows you to link a face with a message or document.First you must provide your instructor with a photograph of yourself so she/he can scan it. In some classes your professor will take your picture with a digital camera. If you provide your own photo, the image should be of good quality but not too large in size. The professor will reduce the size of your photo using a scanner so that it will fit into a frame of about 1.5 by 2.2 inches.
Your professor will place all the digital images in a specific directory so that you can link the image file to your Options - Details page. Your professor will notify you by e-mail when the pictures are ready to be linked.
After the professor has notified you that your picture is in place you can then proceed to your " details" option at the top of your workspace page:
After you select DETAILS in the drop down menu you will see this page:
Your professor will tell you the correct path (URL) for where your picture is located. Normally the path will be:
http://puffin.creighton.edu/bscw/your class name/your net id . jpt
Thus for Fr. Bucko's Fall 2003 ANT111C class the path (with Fr. Bucko's net id) is:
http://puffin.creighton.edu/bscw/ant111c/rab41531.jpg
Here are some troubleshooting tips for when this process does not work:
- The professor may have misnamed your file-- ie spelled your net id wrong.
- You could have typed your net id incorrectly.
- You left a space somewhere in the address-- these should be no spaces!!
- You did not submit your picture or you did not have one taken in class
- You tried to link your picture before the professor notified you he/she was ready
- Your particular class on the workspace is not providing this feature (note that many faculty use this facility in different ways)
In most all of these cases the best bet is to try again and, if you still do not succeed, come to one of your professors during office hours or send e-mail.
Thank you for updating your information! If you have any questions please e-mail me.
