Moving an Object |
If you place an object (such as an article, a folder, or a url link) in the wrong place on the workspace you can easily move the object to the proper position. When you are new at the BSCW it is common to place an object in the wrong place! Don't panic, it can be fixed. You will receive a notice from your instructor if this happens to you! Here is how to remedy the situation:
Suppose I made a folder for Northwest Coast Indian Bibliographies. I then find a link for a bibliography for the Bella Coola Indians. Notice below that the link is OUTSIDE its proper folder-- Northwest Coast Indian Bibliographies:
My first step is to click the box next to the object I want to remove. A check box will appear! Then I press the "CUT" option (note the arrow pointing to this option) on the menu bar. Here is an image of what I"m dong:
Notice that the workspace indicates that the object you cut is now in your carrying case!:
Notice also that you have a new option on the menu bar which appears only when you have objects in your carrying case:
Next you have to open the proper folder (ie the folder in which the object belongs). In this example I have to open the bibliography folder. After you have opened the folder you press.
You will now see the object you dropped with a special icon (a red folder and an arrow -- a finger is pointing at it in the screen captuer below) indicating that this object has been dropped. Please also notice that thebutton has disappeared and that your bag is again empty :
This procedure is also very useful if you want to rearrange folders and objects in your own areas such as your professional portfolio if you are in SOC 200.
